The Salvadoran Coffee Revolution
From farm to cup: how El Salvador became a benchmark for specialty coffee.
Beans with history
El Salvador has had a relationship with coffee dating back over 150 years. But in the last decade, a new generation of producers has transformed the industry: from commodity to specialty coffee, from volume to quality.
Volcanic terroir
Coffee farms extend across volcanic slopes at altitudes between 1,200 and 1,800 meters. The volcanic soil, rich in minerals, combined with natural shade from inga trees and unique climate conditions, produces beans with complex flavor profiles: notes of chocolate, caramel, citrus and flowers.
Unique varieties
El Salvador is home to Pacamara, a variety created in the country that has won multiple international competitions. It also grows Bourbon, Caturra and the rare Salvadoran Geisha, each with distinctive characteristics that SCA (Specialty Coffee Association) judges consistently score above 85 points.
Farm experiences
Farms like El Carmen, Santa Leticia and Los Pirineos open their doors to visitors who want to experience the complete process: from the selective picking of ripe cherries to artisanal roasting and guided cupping. It's a sensory immersion that transforms the way you understand your morning cup.
